Barry used to boast to his buddies how he could keep a forty hour per week job and get inebriated nearly every night. Sadly, after maintaining this “party” lifestyle for nearly five years, he began to manifest various alcohol related difficulties.
Barry Begins to Experience Numerous Alcohol Related Issues
As an example, he had a hard time getting up for work because he felt so tired when he awoke. Moreover, most mornings Barry experienced an appalling hangover. In short, the combination of his hangovers and his lack of get-up-and-go did not make it easy for him to get up and feel inspired to go to work. To add fuel to the fire, nearly a week ago he received his third drunk driving citation in the past four months.
To further complicate things, at his job his last two performance evaluations were less than suitable. And lastly, his five-and-a-half-year marriage with his wife had gone downhill due to his financial difficulties, depression, lack of patience, and his angry outbursts.
Though Barry was only twenty-eight years old, he frankly began to look like he was in his mid forties. Regrettably, this is what irresponsible and careless drinking can do to an individual. And in truth he comprehended that he was going through the negative effects of alcohol abuse or alcoholism and that he was too young to give up his life to irresponsible and hazardous drinking. So at first he tried to drink in moderation. Regrettably, he soon grasped the fact that he lost all control after consuming his first drink. In other words, after his first drink he invariably proceeded to get drunk. Due to the fact that this was an incident that was repeated over and over again, this obviously bothered him a great deal. In fact, he began to wonder if he was exhibiting some of the signs of alcoholism and alcohol abuse.
Barry Makes up His Mind To Make an Appointment to See His Healthcare Professional
After discussing his excessive alcohol drinking and his hazardous and irresponsible drinking with his wife, he finally decided to make an appointment to see his doctor. When Barry saw his healthcare practitioner, he sincerely confirmed that he has been drinking in a hazardous manner, that he may be exhibiting alcoholic signs, and that he wants to quit drinking. He then confirmed that drinking responsibly and in moderation doesn’t work well for him and, consequently, he wants to learn how he can create an alcohol-free lifestyle.
Barry also told his doctor about his depression and how this mental health issue was adversely influencing his relationship with his wife. His physician referred Barry to Doctor Carroll, a drug and alcohol addiction psychiatrist, who convinced Barry to enter into a drug and alcohol rehabilitation clinic as an in-patient for alcohol detox and alcohol treatment. Fortunately, Barry would also be able to get treatment for his depression at this facility.
Getting and Staying Sober Was the Best Decision Barry Had Ever Made
After four months of rigorous treatment, Barry left the residential treatment clinic and continued his recovery via outpatient counseling and via going to local Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. Motivated to change his life in a healthier way, Barry went to a health store and bought some vitamins and a cookbook. He then joined a gym and began working out two or three times per week. Within six months Barry was a new person. He now looked younger than he was, he wasn’t depressed anymore, he was in shape, he was eating nutritious meals, and most significant of all, he remained sober for numerous months. He also became more patient, he didn’t resort to angry outbursts, and he became a more caring individual in his relationship with his wife. In short, getting and staying sober was the best decision Barry had ever made.
