Be honest but vague: “I’m really flattered, but I’ll have to say no.” If you try to explain yourself further, you’ll likely end up either getting caught in a lie,hurting his feelings, or caving and going out with him. As a rule, avoid the “I have a boyfriend” excuse (it leaves the door open) and the “I think we’re better off as friends” line–no one buys that.
